Reducing your carbon footprint at events is easier than ever. While you may think that you will have to sacrifice comfort and functionality to reduce your carbon footprint, nothing could be further from the truth. There are a variety of sustainability tips that you can implement with relative ease. You can certainly extend this thought towards transportation.

Transportation And Sustainability

You might think that reducing your carbon footprint through green-friendly transportation arrangements is a difficult venture, but the truth of the matter is that it is not. There are a variety of simple things you can do that will allow you to meet the transportation of your guests, while embracing sustainability demands.

To that end, consider a few simple sustainability tips for transportation.

Look for ways to cut back on air travel. If possible, look for a location for your event that will be relatively close to the majority of your guests. The more direct flights your guests can book to your event, the better off everyone is going to be. This will cut down on air travel, which in turn will greatly reduce the carbon emissions of your event.

Green-friendly taxi companies are available. If you are responsible for getting your guests to the hotel or convention center, hiring green-friendly taxi companies can definitely go a long way. More and more companies are emerging that exclusively deal in electric cars or hybrid vehicles. You should certainly look into whether or not such companies exist in your area. If you do find a company that offers electric or hybrid cars, then consider making all your travel arrangements through them. Your guests will still make it to the event on time, and you will also cut back on your carbon footprint.

Hotels within walking distance: There are almost certainly hotels within a very reasonable walking distance to your event center. If you are indeed hosting a large, multi-day event in a major city, you are probably already looking into blocks of hotels that are near the venue. Most of your guests will be perfectly fine with walking a block or two. If they don’t, taking a cab will be available to them. Given the short distance, you are still going to cut back on your carbon emissions.

A recent study revealed something very troubling. Travel can take up as much as seventy-three percent of your overall carbon footprint. Make some slight changes, and you will come out with a reduced footprint.

Probably one thing that we see getting overlooked all the time is a good map of the area, and tips for getting around. We find that arming people with local knowledge makes them feel good, since they’re better acquainted with where they are, and then they’re more likely to be adventurous, walk, and take public transport.

    • Great point Yi Shun. Totally agree. A good map would give attendees a better idea of the surroundings, how to get around and motivate them to explore more.
