How to Throw a Baby Shower

Blog, Planning 0 Comment

When it comes to the big events in life, having a baby is one of the biggest. Since this life event is so important, it only makes sense that the baby shower would be meaningful. The good news is that planning a great baby shower does not require slaving over a fancy spread. In order to truly honour these new beginnings, you just need a bit of creative vision combined with some personal touches.

Guest List

The first step in planning a baby shower will be to make the guest list. You should invite the expecting mom’s mom, her sisters, aunts, cousins, and her best friends. If you are unsure of whom you should invite, ask the grandma to be or her sister, someone that is close to her that will be able to help make sure no one is left off the guest list accidently.

Once you have determined how many people are going to be invited you will know how many invitations that you need to purchase. The number of guests will also determine how much food you need and what type of space you need to accommodate everyone.

When it comes to invitations you can either make your own or purchase something cute. There are tons of cute baby shower invitations available. You may want to choose a theme for your shower and pick an invitation that goes with it.

The invitation should include the following information:

  • Name of guest
  • Date of shower
  • Place where it is being held
  • Start time
  • End time
  • Where the mom to be is registered
  • RSVP information

Choose a theme for the shower. If you know the sex of the baby, you can match the decorations accordingly. If you do not know the sex of the baby, you can choose a more neutral theme. You can choose characters from a fairytale, cartoon, or book. You may want to choose something simple such as butterflies, flowers, boats, ducks, etc. If you want to keep things really simple you can simply choose a color scheme.

Create a menu that includes a variety of snacks and deserts. You can choose to only have punch and cake, or you may want to prepare a spread that is more elaborate, depending on the time that your shower is being held. You may want to include the menu in your invitation so that people know what to expect.

No baby shower is complete without games. There are many fun games that can be played that can help break the ice. A mix of written games and active games is typically best. You can create your own written games such as celebrity baby match, or you can find some options at a party store in your area. There are many fun active games as well. Use your imagination and make it fun for everyone.

The prizes for the games can be inexpensive items such as lotions, candles, candy, lottery tickets, or gift cards.
